What Temperature Should Your Home Be in Las Vegas?

Posted on November 5, 2021 by oozle

If you live in Las Vegas or you’re considering moving to the area, it’s important to know what temperature your home should be. Ideally, it should be a comfortable temperature while also remaining affordable and energy-efficient to maintain.

Let’s go into detail about the recommended temperature you should set your home thermostat to in Las Vegas!

What’s the Ideal Home Temperature While Living in Las Vegas?

During the Day

The weather can get hot during the day in Las Vegas, which affects how you’ll set your thermostat. The daytime weather throughout the year is pleasantly warm compared to other regions, but during summer, outdoor temperatures can skyrocket above 100°F.

During the warmer months, it’s best to set your thermostat around 77-80°F. To stay cool without using AC during the spring and fall, turn on fans to keep the air circulating, wear cooling clothing that breathes well, and close the blinds to prevent sunlight from getting in.

During the cooler months, we recommend turning on your thermostat’s heat setting and picking a temperature around 67-70°F. This will ensure that the heater kicks on when it gets cold, but doesn’t use up excessive amounts of energy. To stay warm in your home without using the HVAC system, you can wear warm clothing, use blankets, and open the blinds to let sunlight in.

While Sleeping at Night

Most people sleep the best when the temperature is cool. This is great during the cooler months because it means that you can easily cut back on your energy bill. Simply turn the thermostat down to about 66°F on the heat setting, then bundle up with sheets and blankets.

When it’s warmer outside, set your thermostat to the cooling setting, then choose a temperature that’s as warm as you’re comfortable with. This could be around 76°F for some people, but preferences vary widely, so choose a temperature that’s right for you and your budget.

By picking a temperature that’s not too low, you’ll be able to save energy and cut costs. To stay comfortable while sleeping during the warmer months, consider switching out any heavy blankets for lighter ones or only using sheets.

While You’re Away from Home

When you know you’re going to be away from home for a while, this allows you to save on your energy bill. If no one will be home while you’re gone for an extended period, you can simply turn off your heating and cooling system before leaving the house, then turn it back on when you return.

If you’re only leaving for the day, however, you won’t want to shut off your system entirely. Select a temperature that’s on the warmer side in the summer and the cooler side in the winter, so your HVAC system doesn’t have to work overtime to get you comfortable when you return home.

If you have pets, setting the temperature while you’re away will be a little different because they need to stay safe and comfortable. During the cooler months, a good rule of thumb is to set the thermostat to the same settings you would choose before going to sleep. However, you could even try setting your thermostat a couple of degrees lower than that (depending on what kind of pet you have).

During the warmer months, keeping the temperature around 82-85°F while you’re away is a cost-effective choice. Before picking any temperature that’s drastically different than the one you would choose while you’re at home, it’s recommended that you research your specific pet’s temperature tolerance.

Using a Smart Thermostat

Smart thermostats are becoming a popular feature for homeowners because of how efficient and convenient they are. If you don’t want to deal with frequently adjusting the thermostat, you may want to consider installing a smart thermostat in your home. You can program it with customized settings so that it automatically adjusts to certain temperatures depending on the time of day.

If you know you’re going to be at the office from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday, you can program your smart thermostat to automatically switch to energy-saving temperatures during these times. Just before you return home, it can automatically switch back to your desired temperature settings.

Smart thermostats also allow you to change your home’s temperature while you’re away. Simply use an app and you can adjust the settings from practically anywhere. If you’d like help installing a new thermostat in your house, contact our team and we’d be happy to help you out.
